Pinney Construction Inc. (PCI) was incorporated in 1998 as a California S Corp, consolidating the work the founders began in the 1970’s as Frank Pinney Construction, and now tying together more than four decades of creative construction and business management in Big Sur and the Carmel/Carmel Valley areas.

 

Working with innovative architects such as Mickey Muennig (Post Ranch Inn), Daniel Piechota (Sagan Piechota Architecture), and Bohlin Cywinski Jackson (Seattle and San Francisco), the company has demonstrated the skills and gained a reputation for solving design and structural challenges leading to award winning accomplishments in residential and commercial projects.

 

The founders, Frank and Kathy Pinney, began their construction adventure with the building of the iconic water tank structure, Coast Gallery, at Lafler Canyon in Big Sur.  They have since moved on to construct and remodel dozens of private residences as well as structures for Post Ranch Inn, Ventana Inn and Spa, the Esalen Institute and the Hawthorne Gallery.

 

Their expertise is in concrete, steel, glass, stone and natural woods, ranging from the exotic modern to contemporary traditional.  They have built on cliffs directly above the Pacific Ocean, utilized repurposed redwood wine and water tanks, installed living roofs and provided country and town water and sanitary systems in all sorts of neighborhoods.  They strive to provide the level of services necessary to bring the architect’s vision and the client’s needs into a budget that can be managed and contained, while still achieving the sculptural and artistic quality that the materials and design best complement.

 

PCI has built for a full range of clients, including world-class resorts, and local businesses, gardeners and retired schoolteachers and world-renowned financial and industrial leaders.  They are a local two-generation family business with expertise in techniques of new construction, project management, building design and remodeling to suit the diverse taste and budgets of the Big Sur, Monterey, Carmel and Carmel Valley communities.
